The Make-Up Scam – Toxic Poison in Your Beauty Supplies

It’s morning. The alarm goes off, you drag yourself to the bathroom, and step into the shower. Grabbing the loofah, you slather on your favorite shower gel and follow it up with a rich lather of shampoo. When you step out, you apply your make-up and hair care products before heading out the door.

You don’t really think about it but each day you go through this routine, you are slowly taking years off your life. There are toxic poisons in the beauty supplies you use every day. Are you and your family at risk?

Toxic Poison in Your Beauty Supplies

Beauty supplies such as anti-wrinkle cream, nail polish, foundation, blush, mascara, and the like may promise to make you look beautiful but there are deadly toxic poisons lurking just beneath the surface. According to research, one in eight of the 82,000 chemicals contained in cosmetics, are potentially hazardous to your health.

  • Parabens

Parabens are a top toxic poison contained in just about every beauty supply you use each day. Parabens are dangerous synthetic preservatives that disrupt your delicate endocrine system and may lead to the development of breast cancer, infertility in women, decreased sperm count in men, premature aging, and early puberty in children.

  • Formaldehyde

Formaldehyde is a restricted ingredient in the beauty supplies sold in Canada and with good reason. Formaldehyde is a known carcinogen that is absorbed through the skin and lungs every time you use a product that contains it.

  • Phthalates

Phthalates are plasticizers added to beauty supplies to increase elasticity, smoothness, flexibility, and longevity. Phthalates are powerful hormone disruptors that have been linked to the alarming numbers of infertility rates in the past 30 years. Side effects of phthalates include male and female infertility, neurological disease, autistic symptoms, and cancer.

  • BHT and BHA

Also found in breakfast cereal, BHT and BHA are deadly to your system, especially when absorbed directly through your skin. Used as a moisturizer in skin lotion, cream make-up, and lipstick, these toxic additives have been linked to the development of liver, kidney, thyroid, and lung disease in laboratory rats.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies these chemicals as potential carcinogens.

  • PEG Compounds

Toxins such as propylene glycol and polyethylene glycol are used as penetration enhancers, which opens up your pores and allows for greater absorption of the cream or lotion into your skin. PEG compounds have been strongly linked to the development of breast, uterine, and brain cancers. These chemical compounds are also listed as “not safe for damaged skin” and may cause allergic reaction in sensitive individuals.

  • Sodium Laureth Sulfate

According to an evaluation done by the Environmental Working Group, this common emulsifier has been linked to organ toxicity, infertility, skin and eye irritation, neurotoxicity, genetic mutations, and cancer.

  • Siloxanes

That smooth creaminess you enjoy when putting on your foundation is created by silicone-based derivatives that are harmful to your health and the environment. Siloxanes have been linked to reproductive problems and the development of uterine tumors.

  • Coal-Tar Dyes

Commonly used in hair dye, lipstick, and eye make-up, coal tar dyes have been linked to an increase risk of the development of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

  • Triclosan

Triclosan is a synthetic antibacterial agent commonly found in hand sanitizers. Overuse of antibacterial agents has been linked to the development of autoimmune disorders and neurological disease.

  • Petrolatum

Petrolatum is used as a shine-enhancer in lipstick and hair care products. Petrolatum is often contaminated with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, which may increase the likelihood of developing cancer.

Why would the FDA allow such terrible poisons into the beauty supplies you use everyday? Good question. And the answer is going to infuriate you. The Food and Drug Administration is not authorized nor is it obligated to do any type of testing on any of the chemicals included in the cosmetic products you use. Crazy, right?

This means that any cosmetic company that chooses can put any type of fragrance, additive or preservative it wants so long as it sells a product. If the toxic poison makes the product smell better, look better, feel better or sell faster, it’s going in regardless of what it does to your health!

Choose the Right Cosmetics for Your Health

Now that you’re aware of the dangerous additives lurking in your favorite beauty supplies, you can make a more informed decision about your health. The best thing you can do for yourself and your family is to get rid of all of your commercial beauty supplies and replace them with organic alternatives.

Castile soap is a natural, olive-oil based soap that can be used to replace your shampoo, soap, and shaving cream in one fell swoop. Pure virgin coconut oil can easily replace your skin lotion as it fills your body with healing antioxidants and prevents premature aging. It’s perfect for all skin-types and can even help heal acne, eczema, and psoriasis.

Mineral make-up is derived from natural earth minerals and is much safer for your skin than the make-up you may be using now. The products offer full yet light coverage that allows your skin to breathe.

Essential oils are a smart choice for those of you who want to use fragrance but avoid the dangerous toxins in store-bought perfume and cologne. A combination of baking soda, coconut oil, and skin-safe essential oils such as lavender and rose can be used to replace carcinogen-laced deodorants and antiperspirant.
